Whoever started the “diversity is good” initiative is making a bundle on signs, banners, and grocery bags with “welcome” written on them in 30 languages. I’m sick of them. I love meeting people from all of the world. I’ll puke in a “welcome” bag if I have to hear any more about it, though. People preach “diversity” as though someone being different from you makes them good. Bullshit. Why should I have to value someone or something on the merit that they or it are different or foreign. That’s an awful value system. I can hate people like me, but if you are different enough, I just might have to like you? Sorry current political correctness, I hate you. You’re not like me at all.

Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen. My class in Contemporary Black Perspectives is over. Thank the good Lord for his charity in letting me survive. It wasn’t just a history lesson; it was purely anti-white propaganda. I know there are, and have been, and will be abuses against black people. I also know that abuse does not end at black people. Native Americans, Jews, Muslims, other devout peoples, fat, short, blind, deaf, poor, unfashionable, uninformed, and rich people are all treated poorly and discriminated against or taken advantage of. It’s only a matter of where and when. I tire of victim mentality and people that frame their world outlook as “owed” reparations for past abuses. Get over yourself, whoever you are. Nobody gives a damn about your ancestors. Your religion doesn’t matter unless it gets in my way. You’re short; go get a ladder.

Basically, I have my own problems. If I can, I’ll help you out. In the meantime, I’ll treat you same as everyone else. But don’t you dare unload a culture’s worth of problems on me. I’m not solving them. I don’t care about you as a group. Individually, yes. As a group, forget it. I don’t even care about my own group, whoever they are.

Ayn Rand. Atheist. Anarchist. Egoist. The human embodiment of the abstract concept–selfishness. Thou shalt have no other gods before self. No government. No god. Order comes from reason. I will make no contract with you nor you with me. Our common ground is reason and self-interest. If I want to help you, I will. If I want to kill you, I will. Whatever is in my best interest at the moment is how I’ll behave. I will not relinquish or surrender anything to you. If you receive material goods from me, it will not have been coerced out of me. I will not participate in any socialist undertakings, and neither should you. I am selfishness. All for me if I can use my intellect to get it.

And the kicker…

Ayn Rand, towards the end of her life, developed cancer from her incessant smoking. She hadn’t made enough money from her books spouting her ideology to pay for treatment. So what did she do? She changed her name and managed to fanangle her way into receiving Medicare; a socialist program that she swore was of the devil (even though there isn’t one). Somehow, she had also managed to avoid paying into the Medicare program. So not only was she a hypocrite, she was a cheat and a liar. She sacrificed her “rugged individualism,” not to mention her value system, to be a socialist when it was convenient for her. She was selfish to the end, but proved that selfishness is not a strong enough ideal to martyr yourself over. So she lived and died a selfish miserable women who in the end disproved that one could live selfishly without the aid of those who generously gave her the freedom and money to do so unharmed.

Meanwhile, those that think of others before themselves, are perfectly willing to die for those beliefs. Maybe there is something bigger than self-interest that lurks just out of sight. Could that be God? Ayn Rand was so focused on self that she couldn’t see her neighbor, let alone a god. But she left a nice quote that I don’t think she intended to be applied to herself.

Mr. Fanon,

You observed mistreatment of blacks. So what? Many people have. Writers and philosophers all over the world write about what they see in hopes that knowledge of a problem will inspire readers to action. Well…how’s that workin’ for ya? Not that well? Funny, I could have seen that one coming. Do you have anything else to offer other than that which I already know? Solutions, perhaps?

I think I know why your doctoral thesis was rejected. It wasn’t the white aristocracy. It wasn’t white supremacy. Could it be that there isn’t much originality or content in the work? I think so! I slaved through your thesis looking for content and was able to take each paragraph or two and reduce it to a sentence. So…you fulfilled your English 101 teacher’s 500 word essay assignment–after peer editing. Congrats. Doctoral thesis? Not so much. You poor man. Creating mediocrity and thinking it is profound. But to be fair…fairish…perhaps when you wrote your thesis it was less mediocre for its time then it is now. I suppose if someone creates a work without knowledge that the work was done before, it is just as important, in some sense, as the first creation. Just don’t expect its impact to be much. As an educated man, though, I don’t extend that concession to you, Fanon. Your thesis will remain a piece of simplistic Freshman prose. A topic covered to death so that it is meaningless to those reading and listening. Sorry, my right honorable friend…C-

Emotion? What’s that?

I have emotions. Many people think that I don’t celebrate or respect emotion. True. But that doesn’t equate to not having emotions. That said, my lack of respect for emotion, and the thinking that typically results from it, leads me to shy away from developing them further. I don’t really see the need to go much farther than fuck you, you really piss me off! Get lost homo freak! Wow, he’s full of shit! Mmmm, that tastes good! Oooh, that’s beautiful! Ouch! Oh, crap! A huh. Ahhh! Meh! Owww, I feel good, deh neh neh neh neh neh neh! After that, is there really anything else to say? Science has shown that swearing immediately after receiving a large dose of pain actually releases dopamine that eases the pain. So that emotional response sounds good. Beyond that, any affective noise will do. What’s to communicate? If there is a problem, though, figure it out. Don’t drown in emotion. There aren’t any answers there. Just because you think there is a mermaid in the water doesn’t mean you should dive in and try to hold your breath indefinitely. Surface, breathe, and evaluate the situation. Here’s a thought: maybe there is no such thing as mermaids. Holy crap! You could have died in that emotional deep.

Basically, emotion is a pressure valve. Release the emotion, make it quick, and get on with whatever. If it is a negative release, solve the problem. Pressure release is not a solution, however. It’s more like a good fart. Just because you feel better for the moment doesn’t mean you don’t have something rotting in your stomach.

So, mutter your fuck you, shout your go to hell. Take the road to perdition for a moment, but don’t stay there. Who the hell wants to stay in hell? Use a logic map and navigate out of there.

Devilish Descriptions

I was curious about how the devil is described. The Rolling Stones described him through what he does or is given credit for doing. In fact, they attribute terrible accurances to the devil, but they never condemn him. Arrigo Boito’s opera Mephistofele describes the devil through what his ultimate goals are, but still without actually condemning him. Kind of an interesting mix. Despite the Stone’s claim about the ambiguity of the Devil’s “game,” it seems clear that everyone knows what actions to give the devil credit for (that goes for the Stones, too). So, why the unwillingness to judge the actions? I usually see good and bad in shades of grey, but not in this case. People judge most encounters and “knowledge” (It’s in writing so it must be true) in their lives on insufficient evidence, without learning the facts. Why not make a judgment when the evidence is overwhelming? To be fair, the implication of “bad” is there. But for devilish descriptions, I don’t think implications are clear enough for most people. Anyway, here they are, Boito first:
